Check your car before the NCT!

Every driver has to check "health" of his vehicle every few years - to perform compulsory technical inspection (NCT). How to prepare for this procedure in order to get a new NCT dics and a neat car certificate during one visit? What to note that there would be no need to pay extra time and extra money for additional visits to the NCT stations?

Cars that are safe to drive should have:

Brakes and headlamps are checked by special equipment. All wheel brakes have to work in accordance with the set parameters that guarantee reliable braking of the car.

The dipped-beam and high-beam headlamps must keep the front and approaching drivers in a reliable road safety review without flashing other drivers and causing road hazards.

Together with the chassis and its mechanisms, it is checked that the bottom of the car and the weld seams do not damage the corrosion, the tire's condition, or the wheels are securely fastened, as the steering system works. If the vehicle has a towing hook, its mounting reliability is checked.

Special equipment checks whether the car does not discharge unacceptably high emissions, or oil, fuel or other technical fluids from the engine and transmission do not penetrate.

The elementary check list looks like this:

  • Whether the windscreen wipers and detergents are in operation.
  • Whether the battery is mounted.
  • Whether the lights and indicators are in operation.
  • Whether the tread pattern depth is at least 1.6 mm and not less than 3 mm in the winter.
  • whether the rear view mirror is tidy and securely mounted.
  • Whether there is an acoustic signal - whether safety belts (including rear) are in operation.
  • Whether the stop lamps are in operation.
  • Whether there is an emergency stop sign.

It is also worth noting that all seating areas have safety belts fitted to the manufacturer's intended locations, to check the tire pressure (its markings are usually marked with a special sticker on the car's pillar).

If you are going for a re-inspection, ensure that all the deficiencies identified are cleared and no new ones are found.

After a technical inspection of your car, an inspection report is provided.
